Payson, UT – The 12th round of the Monster Energy Supercross series landed in Detroit, MI, and inside Ford Field for this past weekend’s race. Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS riders took on the toughest track of the season with a pair of top five finishes in the 450SX class.
Blake Baggett: 4th Place (450SX)
Blake Baggett’s night started on the gas as he launched out of the gate in his heat race and charged to a 4th place finish, directly transferring to the main event.
Blake’s main event started off with him charging from deep in the field as he rounded the first turn in 9th place. He put his head down and sliced his way through the field, battling to inside the top five. Baggett didn’t let off and charged to a 4th place finish at the checkered flag. His solid ride moves him into 7th place in championship points.
“I felt good tonight,” said Blake. “While I didn’t get the start I needed, I worked my way up through the field to 4th place. We will do some work on starts this week, and I’m confident we will get on the podium in St. Louis.”
Davi Millsaps: 5th Place (450SX)
Davi Millsaps made his way to the main event through a commanding ride in his semi. He quickly made key moves early in the race, with his main focus on the front. With vigor, he found his way to the front after a heated battle with Trey Canard for the lead. He made the pass stick, taking the win and a spot in the main event.
As the gate dropped on the main event, Millsaps launched off the starting line and rounded the first turn in 3rd place.Davi continued to keep pace with the leaders, and rode one of his best main events of the season. He would battle with the top 5 for the majority of the 24 lap main event, eventually taking the checkers in 5th place. Davi continues to hold 6th place in championship points, while closing in on the top 5 with just five races to go.
“This was my style of track,” said Davi. “I felt good all night and had a great start in the main event. We have been working really hard, and it feels good to be up where I should be. I’m looking towards St. Louis and getting on the podium.”
Dakota Alix: 22nd (250SX)
Dakota Alix started off the night at the front as he blasted out of the gate in his heat race and immediately put himself inside the front pack. Looking poised on his Team RMATVMC KTM, Alix continued to hold it down for a 4th place finish and directly transferred to the main event.
Alix’s main event was cut short, unfortunately, as he went down hard in a first-turn pileup that injured his foot, thus ending his night. Alix and the team will regroup and come back swinging next weekend.
Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS now heads to The Dome at America's Center in St. Louis, MO, for round 13 of the 2017 Monster Energy Supercross series.
